Cosmetic Facial Fillers

As a face ages, skin loses elasticity and thins and the effects of sun damage start to show. This leads to wrinkles and a less volumized facial appearance. A good analogy is a grape and a prune. Both come from the same source but a prune has lost much of its volume and thus the skin wrinkles.

Injectable fillers are used to restore this lost volume. There are many fillers on the market with most being hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a natural component of skin and attracts water. This helps give skin its volume. As skin ages, the amount of hyaluronic acid diminishes. Injectable hyaluronic fillers are used to fill the resulting volume deficits and wrinkles. Unfortunately, injected hyaluronic acid is not a permanent solution. Depending on the location and specific formulation injected, hyaluronic acid will last between 6-18 months.
