Brow & Forehead Lift treatment achorage

Dr. Szutz performs endoscopic brow lifts to raise eyebrows and reduce ridges and furrows on the forehead, thus creating a smoother, more youthful appearance. With aging, the eyebrows can descend producing a tired or angry look. Many people, especially females, subconsciously elevate the eyebrows in an attempt to keep them in an attractive youthful position. This procedure can be performed in conjunction with other surgeries.

Before an upper blepharoplasty is performed an evaluation of eyebrow position should be performed. Many times a brow lift is needed in addition to, or instead of, an upper blepharoplasty. If the eyebrow is low it can cause the appearance of excess upper eyelid skin, thus giving the false impression of needing an upper blepharoplasty. If the eyebrows are low and upper blepharoplasty is performed instead of a brow lift it could preclude a future brow lift due to the risk of causing lagophthalmos (the inability to completely close the eyelids). Thus, the eyebrows will remain in an abnormally low position.

Procedure

An endoscopic brow lift is performed through five to six small incisions that are hidden in the hair. An endoscope, an instrument used to examine the interior of the body, enables complex surgery through small skin incisions in the same manor a laparoscope allows general surgeons to perform complex abdominal surgery through small incisions instead of the large incisions common prior to laparoscopes.

After completion of surgery a snug dressing is placed that will be removed the following day. A headband similar to a tennis headband is then used, nearly continuously for five days and then at night for an additional seven days.

Postoperative Information

Swelling and some bruising will occur and should subside within a few weeks. It is not uncommon for the upper eyelids to be considerably swollen for the first few days, especially if other cosmetic procedures are performed near the eyes.
